About

We are a small sheep farm located in the foothills of Western North Carolina. Our farming system is focused on sustainability: We maintain a pasture-fed flock and practice rotational grazing. This system optimizes the health of the soil and grass, and it minimizes the need for additional inputs like fertilizers, grain feeds, and hay. And because our flock is small, we can keep a close eye on the health and happiness of the lambs and ewes. Our lambs are raised with their mothers until the lambs have reached market size.

(1) Dressed weight (also known as hanging weight or carcass weight) is the weight after the inedible parts (hide, feet, innards, etc.) have been removed. The dressing percentage for most lambs is about 54%, but it can vary between 48% to 55%.

(2)  The take-home weight or yield is the weight after some bones and fat are removed.  The “yield” varies with the desired meat cuts, but it is generally between 48% to 55% of hanging weight.

  • We use Wells-Jenkins-Wells Meat Processing for our custom processing. Processing cost is about $100/ lamb. Your lamb will be cut, vacuum packed, labeled, weighed, and frozen.
  • We prefer that you pick up your lamb straight from Wells-Jenkins-Wells Meat Processing plant located @ 145 Rollins Road, Forest City NC 28043 – 24 miles from Columbus, NC.
  • You can pick up your order at the farm as well.  A fuel surcharge based on mileage will be applied-$0.60/mile.
  • For a lamb, you will need 2 cu. Ft of freezer space. A whole, processed lamb will likely fit in the freezer that comes with your refrigerator.
